Up Cast Set Build

Set Build for The Happiest Days Of Your Life, 10/11 November 2007

Set build is always a manic time. Exhausting, frustrating, stressful and downright FUN!

First clear the stage (chairs, curtains, tabs, piano) and sweep it. Then up with the flats (making sure they go in the right place) and get the doors hung. By then the lights started going up too. The scene behind the French windows was painted in situ. A big job for this set was the plastic mouldings for the door pillars, (broken) pediment and all the wall panelling. This of course took forever, especially with flats that aren't flat, joints that don't join and right angles that are anything but right. Carving the panelling to fit round the shape of the pillars and fireplace was particularly fun and took an age. The final effect was fabulous though and worth the effort. The thrust went up without too much difficulty (we're getting used to it now) and the Homo In Omnibus school crest on the front looked the part. With the furniture placed and the whole set dressed, the staff common room came alive and was a real 'stuffy, old comm'. We even managed to get Sid's ("All hail the President") self portrait on at the back.
